“Ceci n’est pas une pipe” Poem

January 7, 2013

Hello! My family and I recently visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and it was fantastic! There’s so many galleries you can’t possibly do the whole thing in one day, but we had fun perusing the Caravaggio, Ken Price, Stanley Kubrick, and Robert Mapplethorpe’s XYZ exhibits, as well as stopping by to visit the above and below referenced painting by René Magritte. Afterwards, this poem sauntered and spun in my head. It was strangely comforting.

“Ceci n’est pas une pipe”

Sometimes I fantasize about

an empty museum

there is no Art on the wall

nor placed on the floor

nor pedestaled.

It’s a warehouse really,

with Randomized colored walls

whose curves and twists wonder,

a maze of mirrors

in which I

get

lost.
